Death of André Juillard, French comic book artist

1, Aug, 2024

André Juillard, one of the leading figures in historical and realistic comics, died on Thursday August 1 at the age of 76.

Juillard left his mark on the history of comics with his clear, uncluttered style, through such legendary series as "Les 7 Vies de l'Épervier" and its spin-off cycles since 1983, "Le Cahier Bleu", and since 2000, his revival of Blake and Mortimer with Yves Sente.

Among the many tributes to The Little Prince, those drawn by André Juillard are particularly noteworthy.

Back in 2006, the magazine Lire Hors-Série published a tribute drawing to The Little Prince by André Juillard, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the book's publication in France.

Then, with Didier Convard, scriptwriter of Le Triangle Secret, Juillard imagined a complete 4-page story, recounting Antoine de Saint Exupéry's last flight, at the end of which the pilot-writer finally meets The Little Prince, for real… published in a comic book tribute by Glénat in 2016.

A man of great talent has passed away, with his clear line and great humility. Elegant, loyal and cultured, he will be missed by the world of culture.
